Study : Lights on the musicvideos
The union of french producers of musicvideos (SPPAM) held a discussion Wednesday, May 5, 2010 to ESRA (Paris). On this occasion were presented the first results of the study, "Lights on the musicvideos, its status, its economy and its problems", entrusted to GL Connection.
The importance of image to music and the added value it brings him no longer, today, to question. However, we can only note that the music video has not the place it deserves in the business landscape.
▪ The status of the clip, both a promotional and audiovisual work recognized as heritage, is still uncertain: it has not yet found its full place as such in the register of companies copyright.
▪ As a result, the authors / video directors feel marginalized in devices for collection and distribution rights.
▪ Picture Producers claim rights that they consider legitimate but that does not recognize their record producers.
▪ The crisis in recorded music affects budgets, which were significantly reduced in recent years, and increased tensions between the parties concerned. Contractual relationships harden. Co-productions are becoming increasingly rare.
▪ Economy and finance videomusics are questioned. The low cost budgets are increasing, with risks on the quality and would inevitably lead to departures from the labor laws.
▪ Their distribution is changing, tapering on the terrestrial channels for the benefit of DTT channels, much less profitable and grows on the websites, without returning to the authors / filmmakers and audiovisual producers.
From the findings pointed to by the study and clarification it brings, the meeting of May 5 was possible to discuss all these issues and, SPPAM to present twenty recommendations, proposals and reflecting. ( Read more...)
