The English flag was dropped saturday night on the 5th edition of International music videos Festival PROTOCLIP) during a crazy award ceremony presented by the french showman Nicolas Ullman in Paris at the Centre musical Barbara Fleury Goutte d’or.
The official jury with Arthur H as president offered the "Grand Prix" to Olivier MARTIN who directed the music video “DANS L’HERBE”, by Ignatus. The Jury Prize (Coup de Coeur) was decerned to the music video “BEWARE THE KILLER”, directed by Jesus Hernandez, while the Best Animation was attributed to Olivier GONDRY for his video “CHEWING-HOMME”. The audience has also its prize for “A LEVIATAN OF OLD” directed by Peter DEJON. The music video “NASA” directed by Alexei TYLEVICH Logan won the Best Technical Skills award. Finally, the Public prize, as voted on the web goes to “DANGER GLOBAL WARMING”, directed by Alexandre ATHANE.
For professionals, the gold music video was awarded to « EST-CE QUE C’EST CA ? », the new music video of Matthieu CHEDID directed by Stephane BERLA.
selected among 300 music videos submissions, 25 independents, 10 professionals, 10 english and a selection of 15 international (Flux) music videos were chosen for the 2009 competition.
Divided into four categories and four daily sessions, also with retrospective productions such as WANDA and PARTIZAN, 110 music videos were screened with no less than 10 nationalities represented.
Highlights of this 5th edition, round tables discussions organized by the SPPAM (Union of Producers of audiovisual programs music) opening the debate on the rights of music video’s directors and music video industry have attracted a professional audience. A RED One workflow, animated by Locared / Sysmic Films, as well as screenings of music videos produced by famous french companies have gathered partners and a lot of producers video around common ambitions. Several specific meetings with the English director Dougal Wilson also helped the festival to create a direct link between the amateur videographers and the professionals.
Located in Paris this year for the first time, the festival over the previous year with over 2500 visitors from all 5 days. This 5th edition therefore marks a major turning point in the evolution of the Festival and confirms the growing role of platforms for the dissemination and exchange that this event is for professionals, freelancers and audience.
Curious and alternative, the festival continues its interdisciplinary experiences with the organization of pop rock concerts (Kiusa, Treemouth, Have Thoum and blue, Majiker) which gathered more than 300 people in the great hall of the Centre Barbara (Paris 18e).
Anchored in a whirlwind creative and inventive, the festival PROTOCLIP more than ever want to highlight the filmmakers of tomorrow, and tends to develope itself with the support of the city of Paris. The 6th edition promises to be eventful...
